If Love is a Crime

I know you’re no good for me but still I need you so

Can’t make no sense of my misery, I don’t know what there is to know

I lay awake at night dreamin’ of your kiss, it haunts me to my soul

I don’t know how much more of this, one poor man can hold

Because I’m guilty… I’m guilty… I’m guilty… if love is a crime

I took the stand, raised my right hand and I swore to tell the truth

She wrecked my place, lied to my face, stole my affection and my youth

I stand accused, mistreated and abused, how could she be so cruel?

The jury heard and the judge he said the word:  you ain’t nothing’ but a doggone fool

He said I’m guilty… I’m guilty… I’m guilty… if love is a crime

I’m doin’ time in the prison of my mind cryin’ ‘cause I can’t break free

My love is buried deep, so deep that I can’t sleep haunted by your memory

I’m guilty… I’m guilty… I’m guilty… if love is a crime
