An intimate evening with guitarist, composer, and songwriter John Silliman Dodge
We have a special fundraising concert happening Sunday November 7 at Artichoke Music in Portland. That evening I’ll be performing 90 minutes of original songs and instrumentals, including a lot of new material, all to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. We’ll also stream this event live as it happens, as well as archive the stream so you can tune in virtually if that better suits your schedule or your time zone. All the information you need is below.
Artichoke Music has long been the primary acoustic music venue in Portland—a community-serving non-profit and the perfect partner for this important cause. It won’t come as a surprise to learn that hunger and food insecurity in Oregon has increased exponentially over the past year and a half. But you can do something about it—you can put a dent in hunger AND enjoy an evening of live music at the same time. Here’s how it will work:
For every $15 ticket you buy to this performance, Lis and I will donate $15 to the Oregon Food Bank. We’ll also match every dollar you put into the live stream’s “video tip jar” doubling your gift. Coming as it does just weeks before Thanksgiving, your participation and thoughtfulness will be extra appreciated by many Oregon families in need.
Please join us for a wonderful evening of music and grace us with your presence, either in person or online, Sunday November 7 beginning at 7 pm Pacific time at Artichoke Music. And feel free to forward this message to your friends!
Thank you so much in advance—
John

First Thursday in the Pearl, Pepin Gallery, corner of Everett and 9th Ave, Portland
I play this wonderful gallery in the Pearl every First Thursday I'm on the West Coast.
This is a great format--four artists each perform for 30 minutes. Chances are they're doing their best stuff in such a short set. If you love a performer, this is a great introduction to their work. If not, well, 30 minutes is not too much to endure, is it? ;-)
This is a private house concert. Email me and I'll send back location and details. -JD
First Thursday @ the Elizabeth Lofts Gallery, 333 NW 9th Avenue, Portland
I play this little pop-up gallery in the Pearl every First Thursday. The entrance to Elizabeth Lofts is in the courtyard bounded by Everett and Flanders, and 9th and 10th Aves. Look for Isabella Restaurant on the corner and you'll find it. Or if it's a warm evening, just listen for the sounds of guitar! -JD
Artichoke does a songwriter showcase every Friday night in their coffeehouse/wine bar/barn in the back of the music store. 30 minute sets are the norm and I'll be doing 9-10 original tunes that evening. Would love to see you there. -JD
PS: the player before me is a trombonist. How many of those have you seen recently??
Portland Guitar Society, 3350 SE Francis Street, Portland
The Portland Guitar Society is one of the great things about living in Portland, Oregon. A very diverse, very warm, very supportive group of musicians of all ages and abilities gets together once a month at the Community Music Center on Francis Street. After an hour of open mic and a short intermission, a featured performed does a 30-40 minute set. We'll be recording this evening for a special live CD called "John Dodge Live at the Portland Guitar Society 2015" so it would be great if you would come!
Free but donations are appreciated
Northwest Handmade Instrument Show, Marylhurst University, Portland
This super high-quality annual show takes place both Saturday April 25 and Sunday April 26. My friend Peter Zisa and I will be demonstrating/performing on luthier John Mello's guitars sometime during Sunday afternoon. Details to follow.
First Thursday @ The Elizabeth Lofts, 333 NW 9th Avenue, Portland
If you live in Portland, you've likely been to a First Thursday art walk in the Pearl District. The Elizabeth Lofts is a pop-up gallery with a courtyard entrance between Everett and Flanders and 9th and 10th Aves. If you see the "Lovejoy Columns" you'll know you're in the right place. My friend Diane Kruger features a different artist each month and, of course, serves free wine and appetizers. The room is small and acoustically wonderful. Hope to see you there. -JD
This should be a great two sets with Sean Vinson, bass and Kyle Owen, dajon and percussion playing all the new music from John Dodge "TRIO."
