The Wilds of West Texas

Headed down to Texas today, where I have spent so much of my time. It's the only state that was first an independent republic, if you didn't already know. "It's a whole other country"  is what the Texas state tourism bureau says. And mostly they're right. So wide from northeast to southwest that on road trips my grandmother used to quip "the sun has riz and the sun has set and still we are in Texas yet."

I've been reading a history of the Comanche tribe and their chief, Quanah Parker. The Comanche's republic was considerably larger than Texas and we're headed right into the middle of it, a town called Marfa. I'll come back with stories. Meanwhile, thanks for reading and have a good Thanksgiving.   -JD
